Starting from Calgary, head north on Hwy 2 to Crossfield, and turn east on Hwy 72 (which becomes Hwy 9). Stop and explore Horseshoe Canyon, a picturesque pocket of the Badlands with a great lookout point just off the highway. A bit further, youÕll drop into the Badlands proper and the town of Drumheller which has the worldÕs largest dinosaur (a 69 ft steel and fibreglass t-rex) and the Royal Tyrrell Paleontology Museum. From Drum, head south on Hwy 56, turn east onto Hwy 1 and then slightly north on Hwy 36 to Hwy 544 to get to Dinosaur Provincial Park (follow the signs). Visit the Field Station or go on a guided walk to visit the dinosaur bone bedsÑamong the worldÕs greatest sources of dinosaur fossils. Then head east on Hwy 1 to visit Medicine Hat with the worldÕs tallest teepee, and return west via Hwy 3 to get to Lethbridge with historical interest points at the Sir Alexander Galt Museum and Fort Whoopup. A side trip south on Hwy 36 or 4 will take you to the Dinosaur and Heritage Museum in Warner, with Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park a bit further southeast. From Lethbridge, take Hwy 3 to Hwy 2 north and youÕre back in Calgary. Distances: Calgary to Drumheller 140 km (88 mi). Drumheller to Medicine Hat 247 km (155 mi).
