Trail of the great Bear
The Alberta portion of this tour follows the Rockies where the Great Bear, the grizzly, roams.
Begin the tour in Cardston, just north of the Canadian/United States border, and home of the Remington-Alberta Carriage Centre. Head west along Hwy 5 to Waterton Lakes National Park, which is united with MontanaÕs Glacier National Park, to create the world's first international park. Continue north along Hwy 6 to Pincher Creek, and tour the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village. Veer east on Hwy 3 to Fort Macleod, the first outpost established by the North West Mounted Police. Turn north on Hwy 2 and travel to Calgary, home of the Glenbow Museum and Heritage Park. Head west along Hwy 1 to Canmore and Banff, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Following the Icefields Parkway, Hwy 93 north to Lake Louise, and visit the Columbia Icefields, and finally to Jasper, in the Jasper National Park. Distances: Cardston to Pincher Creek 90 km (56 mi). Pincher Creek to Fort Macleod 51 km (32 mi). Fort Macleod to Calgary 167 km (104 mi). Calgary to Banff 129 km (80 mi). Banff to Lake Louise 55 km (34 mi). Lake Louise to Jasper 233 km (146 mi).
